Roadmap #1
Hello friend,
I hope you had a lovely holiday period.
As I took last week off to rest, I wanted to provide two newsletters this week. So, I'm testing a new name & layout for today, and we'll have our normal SQUATS email on Friday.
I'd love to know what you think so please hit reply :)
The PT Roadmap
Helping personal trainers become better coaches and build careers they love.
One Social Media Post Worth Your Time
I liked and saved this post from Sukh Sidhu. I'm yet to play around with ChatGPT, but after reading this, I've created a calendar slot for this week to have a play.
I'll let you know my thoughts on a future issue!
One Coaching Cue
"Crush the can."
Excellent cue to use when coaching abdominal recruitment in movements like the military press or hollow body hold.
Tell your client to "crush the can" between their hips and ribcage.
As always, I'd recommend adding in the question, "what does this cue mean to you?" so you're able to add a layer of personalisation if it works!

One Business Tip
Use client reviews.
I know you already talk to your clients and feel like you review things regularly, but I guarantee you'll learn more if you formalize your reviews.
Every 6-10 weeks (or as often as you see fit), sit down in a quiet space with your client for 15 minutes and discuss how they are getting on, what they've got coming up, what they are enjoying/ not enjoying and how you can better help them.
I always pick up something in these I wouldn't have learnt otherwise.
One Coaching Tip
Want a coaching habit to work on for 2023?
Practice your listening skills.
It's as simple (and challenging) as paying attention to what you think and do when your client is talking.
Do you look for space to jump in and say your piece?
Or do you try your best to focus on what they are saying?
The latter is the stance we should be aiming for.
"The biggest communication problem is we do not listen to understand. We listen to reply." - Stephen Covey
